Camouflage is the main function of the patterns on a giraffe. It can happen that a giraffe is standing a few metres away in the bush, but it won’t be seen in passing. Unique markings make each individual giraffe different, just like out fingerprints.
Falling a huge distance at birth, giraffe foals are encouraged to stand immediately by their mothers. Because they are easy prey for predators, it’s essential that baby giraffes get on their feet as soon as possible. What makes the giraffe babies absolutely adorable is the tufts of hair on their horns. These tufts are present in all giraffes, but in baby giraffe they are much more pronounced.
Giraffe are particularly vulnerable when they’re drinking because they have to arrange their legs awkwardly in order to reach the water.
