Relying on their mother for milk for approximately 3 months, the cubs then get fed small amounts of meat. Their play at a young age includes mock-killing and stalking. They stay with their mothers for a long time. Frequently, the male cubs actually outgrow their mother. Finally, she often has to display aggressive behaviour to chase her cubs away, therefore forcing them to fend for themselves.

Here, the female leopard is grooming herself, whilst her cubs rather comically romp around her and one cub lies belly-up next to his mother.
